The New Yahoo! Search Crawler (Slurp) Is Here!

yahoo_search_crawler_slurp.gifYahoo just launch their new crawler name Slurp. What a name! Sound so much like Slut or Sluggish, and indeed it is. According to Yahoo, the new Slurp crawl your site less and consumer less bandwidth. Not only that, they’ve assure webmasters out there that the new crawler would boost ranking for sites that provide good contents.

Now, with the new crawler in full production, we have turned off the old crawler and site owners should see a much lower crawl load without a loss in content coverage. With this change of behavior in the crawler, you may see some shuffling of the pages that are included in the index and some changes in ranking as well

That is really good. We need to thank yahoo for making this change. Hope the new slurp is healthy and eats only fresh food and generates better indexes and SERPs thereforth.

Google Search Toolbar

google_evil_toolbar.jpg

Ionut Alex. Chitu found this unique evil feature while installing Google Search Toolbar. What happen to Google and their no evil moto?

Even if you disable ’Search with Google’ from the toolbar, and kill GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe, everytime you load IE, Google Toolbar launches GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe once again.

Very evil indeed.

The First Smiley :-)

The first smiley or better known as :-) and its many other variants are an important part of worldwide electronic culture. This simple combination of text allows emotion to be express in a very meaningfull way in the early 80’s. The original creator was Scott Fahlman, his original email was lost until it was found it a backup tape in 2002. Here is Scott’s original post:

19-Sep-82 11:44 Scott E Fahlman :-)
From: Scott E Fahlman

I propose that the following character sequence for joke markers:

:-)

Read it sideways. Actually, it is probably more economical to mark
things that are NOT jokes, given current trends. For this, use

:-(

Some people will argue that smilies have been around for much more dating as far back as the 60s .. sometimes used in military communications (or something). Like it or not, the smiley has become a staple of Internet culture, with animated GIF and other image representations, as well as the ubiquitous text-based emoticon, ” :) “.

Microsoft MSN Uses Google Adsense

Google Adsense

Look what I’ve found. Seems like the people in Microsoft don’t trust their own advertising system. I’ve tried the new MSN messenger Live and all I can say is that it is better than the previous version. I love the offline message feature. Its about time they include the long awaited PC to PC call feature. Thanks Skype for keeping up the competition and most of all the innovation.
