Just a few minutes ago i saw a short movie of a phonecall with a man in the building, you could hear him screaming at the same time the building collapsed, and i can’t even imagine how scared he must’ve been, as were the others. But I will say that this black and white mentality of “we’re good, they’re evil, and they did this because they hate our freedom and our religion” is something that contributes to the problem. We have to get down to root causes if we want to fix the CONDITIONS that led to these events in the first place, which means that unfortunately for us Americans, we have to look at some things we’re doing wrong, such as maintaining massive military presence in the Middle East (for a long time before the attacks, not just after) and trying to police the world.

April 14th, 2008I happened to come across this photo by accident today. I’m not American (am in Sydney, Australia), yet I still find it extremely upsetting to look at. It literally invoked a feeling of nausea. The photo is not funny. No matter how much time passes, this was an act (regardless of who you may think was the cause of it) who’s gravity and tragedy should never be diminished by such sick and insensitive humour. People were killed in such a terrible terrible way. To have known that you were about to die such a violent death, I can’t imagine anything more terrifying. And all the amazing fire fighters who gave their lives. This photo is upsetting because it mocks what they all went through, but it seems also to have brought out such an ugly side of racism in Americans who have posted comments on this site.

August 4th, 2009Those of you who think this is funny,…imagine your mother on that plane or boardroom, imagine someone dear to you going through that. Although I am not a FDNY firefighter, I am a firefighter who responded to that emergency that morning. I was there. If you seen what I saw, you wouldn’t laugh. If you felt half of what was happening, you wouldn’t laugh. But, you have the benefit of ignorance, and behind that, you laugh. It is not surprising to me to see the hatred for America,…we do have our problems,..but what other nation is frequently called upon during international crisis? ..during times of trouble (example,..Kuwait in ‘91). So, my fellow Americans,…proud Americans,…let them laugh, let them show their ignorance and prove our case for us,…that they laugh not because they find it funny, but because it happened to the country they despise most,…the one they are jealous of. “Look on our works, ye mighty, and despair!” It is hard to be the Champion. Back to my point..each one of us can answer this easily. If our mother were on that plane,…would we laugh?? If your answer is yes,…then you need help. If your answer is no,..then you can imagine what the offended feel.
