As to the legality of it, I seem to remember (although i could be wrong) somebody asking this question at DgitalPoint, and somebody posting an email from the Adsense team indicating that it was. Additionally, although I don't remember who exactly, I have seen that plugin on some high-profile sites. If I ever decide to put Adsense on my blog, I would probably use that plugin.
