Microsoft Corp took 18 months to find the right tune for Windows Vista’s start up sound, and the soft da-dum with a lush fade last a mere 4 seconds. Reminds me of Windows 95’s ’start me up tune’ by Rolling Stones. It was believed that Microsoft paid millions for the right to use rolling stone’s few seconds of tune on Windows 95 – rumors, but this time around, Vista’s tune which took 18 months is definitely a million dollar tune.

November 12th, 2006My favourite Windows sound is silence. I’d rather not be clubbed over the head with a dramatic chime everytime I perform the slightest task. I know what I did because I did it. ;)
Nevertheless it’s interesting to compare the sound effects in XP to the revamped ones in Vista.

November 12th, 2006I disable mine too. the worst part is when i shut down my comp after watching some DVD, and the super loud ‘windows xp shut down tune’ woke up everyone in the house.

November 12th, 2006No sounds for me either. I only let Windows play some error-sounds. No login sounds, they only add to my loadtime.
Microsoft should fire the person who came up with the idea for a million dollar sound. Total waste of money.
