Cisco is suing Apple for the trademark name “iPhone”. Cisco claims that it own the name when they bought over infogear together with the iPhone trademark name. Clash of the titans? Makes me wonder why didn’t Steve Jobs negotiate with Cisco… or maybe he did and Cisco was asking for millions in royalty fees. iphone or no iPhone, it s still an Apple.
Jonathan Ive: The Designer of Apple iPhone
On the other hand, Jonathan Ive is the lead designer for most of Apple’s key product, Ive’s team works in a large open studio with great privacy and the best part is, only authorised Apple employees are allowed to enter the studio for fear they might leak any secret information regarding upcoming products.
How to keep the iPhone a secret? especially the prototype a secret? What Apple did was to draft a bogus design and prototypes and post it online.

January 10th, 2007UPDATE FROM CISCO - Intellectual property is the lifeblood of Silicon Valley and we all have to protect our property. The iPhone trademark is owned by Cisco, as noted in your story. We (Cisco) had hoped to reach an agreement to share our trademark with Apple, yet they decided to use the name without our agreement, so we, unfortunately, are having to go to court to stop them from using the name. This is not about money. We still hope we can reach an agreement, but when your neighbor steals your property, you have no recourse other than to call the cops and file a complaint. It is not a suit about money or royalties. This is a suit about trademark infringement.”
