Cisco Sues Apple for IPhone Trademark Infringement

Cisco is suing Apple for the trademark name “iPhone”. Cisco claims that it own the name when they bought over infogear together with the iPhone trademark name. Clash of the titans? Makes me wonder why didn’t Steve Jobs negotiate with Cisco… or maybe he did and Cisco was asking for millions in royalty fees. iphone or no iPhone, it s still an Apple.

Finally, the rumours about Apple launching a phone is true. With a retail price of USD499, this gadget is a combination of ipod and a phone. It comes with a 4Gb of memory, supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technology and can detect location from Global Positioning System satellites. It also can send and display e-mail and text messages. Apple is partnering with Yahoo Inc. on Web-based e-mail and Google Inc. on maps.

With the launch of iPhone, Apple is now an electronic company and no longer a computer company, experts says Apple may soon rival Sony is every segment, from Audio to Digital Cameras.

The Apple phones, which will operate exclusively on AT&T Inc.’s Cingular Wireless network, will start shipping in June. A 4-gigabyte model will cost $499, while an 8-gigabyte iPhone will be $599. While wireless carriers typically offer discounts and rebates on new devices when they agree to sign a two-year service contact, Cingular said it was unclear whether this would be the case with the iPhone.
