How to Install both IE6 and IE7

April 5, 2007 · Filed Under How To and Online Tutorials

Web designer are required to make sure their websites render well in a browser, technically that would be Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Safari. Now, problem is IE6 has a really bad rendering engine when it comes to displaying websites, but then again no web designer can deny that they have to somehow code the site for IE6. Here is a simple step on how to install both IE6 and IE7, how about Internet Explorer 8?

1. Download IE 7 from Microsoft, if you haven’t already done so
2. Unrar the exe file
3. Delete the folder that is named ‘update’
4. Delete ie4unit.exe
5. Delete spuninst.exe
6. Delete spupdsvc.exe
7. Delete install.ins
8. Create a new text file called iexplore.exe.local and save this file in the same folder
9. Run iexplore.exe to open IE 7

Cross browser validating is indeed annoying. I am somewhat confused from you r instructions. Does the deletion of those files stop IE 7 from replacing IE 6?

By the way you can also install IE 6 standalone http://www.blogcrowds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=97.

Of course, both of these method are more or less hacks, the best way would probably be running virtualization software like Parallels.
