OLPC to run Windows

Negroponte suggests the OLPC can support Windows, which is something not to many people’s liking, Bill Gates has a monopoly on the desktop market and won’t it be better if OLPC comes bundle with Linux or possibly a strip down version of MacOS X but that would be highly unlikely considering the fact that Apple is in a league of their own.
Another drawback would be the $176, up from the initial $100 price tag announced one year ago. OLPC’s target is one child a laptop, which is something I find almost impossible to achieve, considering the fact that the new price is $176, it doesn’t make economical sense to give or sell a unit to one child when three units of OLPC would be sufficient to buy a low end desktop and if the desktop is placed in a library, more than 3 children can have access to the computer. My bet is OLPC is as good as dead!

April 27th, 2007I fail to see how notebook PCs are the key to a better life (or even better learning) for children - impoverished or otherwise. Countless genuises existed long before the advent of computer, so the lack of a notebook PC shouldn’t be considered a hinderance to any child’s learning ability or potential.
With third world children in mind, maybe that $180 per child would be better spent on medicine, water infrastructure, food, or basic book-based educational needs.

Man Microsoft has made alot to this world, things that are unseen .. even if it’s drive by business development, but Look out What the Software Giant has made to make this world know how SOFTWARE can make their life much easier … am living in Jordan, a third level country that has thousands of programs that was funded by Microsoft for FREE !! ..
I like the technology, every technology either it’s MS or Other, at the end of the day I NEED SOMETHING intellegent enough to make my day just PRODUCTIVE ..
In jordan that PC will be sold with less than 180$ price, the reason MS has made a huge fund this year to deliver a large ammount of OLPC for free for those who can’t even pay the 180$ ..
Thanks for the great resources who made windows, linux, mac and every single OS available to all ages ..
