Acer slam Microsoft

July 25, 2007 · Filed Under Silicon Valley · Comment

The head of Taiwan-based personal computer maker Acer, Gianfranco Lanci, slam Microsoft for its not up to standard Vista Operating System.

Personally I couldn’t agree more, “I really don’t think that someone has bought a new PC specifically for Vista,” he added. I bought an Acer Aspire laptop and I choose Windows Xp instead of Vista because of stability and software compatibility. Anyway, mine is a laptop and since Vista drains battery at 40% faster than XP, I see no reason for me to choose Vista, it defeats the idea of having a portable computer anyway.

Panasonic unleashes Lumix FX33, FX55, and FZ18

You can’t go wrong with Panasonic, it appears that Panasonic has just release three brand new cameras - DMC FZ18K, DMC-FX33 and DMC-FX55. I own a Panasonic FZ20, which is a pretty old model but it is rock solid in term of performance, what makes Panasonic unique compare to other digital cameras such as Sony, Nikon and Canon are:

  • LEICA DC lens
  • Super Long Zoom
  • Optical Image Stabalizer, other company uses Digital Image Stabalizer, the difference is the digital image stabalizer uses software to sharpen the image after capturing it while Optical Image Stabalizer uses the lens to focus on the object and preventing blurness, it is better to prevent than cure right?

OLPC laptop used by child to surf porn

According to engadget, it appears that some kids used the OLPC laptop given by the government to surf porn, it really makes me wonder why did they not come up with the idea of installing some kind of internet filter in the first place?

Anyway, I like the noble idea on given ever child a laptop somehow I think they’ve taken it a little bit further, why can’t they just set up an internet cafe providing free internet access or unlimited computer access to these kids, it would be cheaper in the long run.
