40 Lashes for Naming a Teddy Bear “Mohammed”
Here we go again, a British primary school teacher has been arrested in Sudan for allowing her class of 7-year olds name a teddy bear ‘Mohammed’. Gillian Gibbons, a British citizen had since been charged with “blasphemy,” an offence he said was punishable with up to three months in prison and a fine.
The name ‘Mohammed’ is sacred to Islamic philosophy, the name Mohammed is associated with ‘Nabi Mohammed’, the founder or massager of Islam.
Based on my understanding, it was the children that named the teddy bear ‘Mohammed’, not Gillian Gibbons. Anyway, what is wrong with naming a teddy bear ‘Mohammed’? We’ve seen westerners naming their children ‘Christ’, some goes to the extend of burning a bible, same thing happens in Asia, what is wrong with that? Religion should be a separate entity from the state, if the church wants to sue them for burning a bible, by all means go ahead, if the Islam scholars wants to sue Gillian Gibbons, by all means go ahead, but the government should not get involved.

December 1st, 2007hi i want to make comment about your post.islam is diffrent with christian.We cannot name the thing with mohhamad.Even the mohamaad name is refer to the child name ini the class, but the name is still cannot name to the bear.What about if i call the pig or dog with your name.Are u okay? every time when i see pig i call with your name.Muhammad is mighty gif from allah.Whe live in the world should be respect with other religious.We never disturb or bother you all.I the the teacher is stuppid.Why don’t she use other name like Mimi.And if u said cannot what about if i call the pis is jesus christ.Are you oky.I don’t think so.
