There are hundreds of screen capture tools and only a handful of them are freeware, most of the paid version offers way too many features for our basic needs, snagit is one of them. Do you happen to know that Windows has a build in screen capture feature? Yes, that little ‘Print Screen’ button on the upper right hand corner of your keyboard.

How do you go about using it? Simple, hit the ‘Print Screen’ button once. Then launch Microsoft Paint (Start -> All Programs -> All Accessories -> Paint)

Go to ‘Edit’ then ‘Paste’, or alternatively hit ‘Ctrl + V’. There you go, you’ve successfully captured a screenshot.

Same procedure for Microsoft Office, just hit the paste button or CTRL + V.

p.s. To capture a screenshot of the active window, press “Alt + Print Screen”. Meaning to say, you should hold down the ‘Alt’ key and then press the ‘Print Screen key’ or ‘PrtSc’ for Laptops.

Free Screen Capture Tools

These tools are somewhat more feature rich as oppose to the free Windows Print Screen, some comes with simple image editing tools.
