How to Disable and Mute the Camera Shutter Sound in Nokia 5800?

Update 07 May 2009: After months of searching, I found the patch that can disable the camera shutter sound in Nokia 5800 XM is based on S60 v5. At the time of writing, this patch works on the v20 firmware. Follow this simple step-by-step tutorial to kill the annoying camera shutter sound on your Nokia 5800:
1. Download CenRep 3rd, unzip the file.

2. Visit the official Symbian Signed Page for application developer, enter your IMEI number and your e-mail address. Please make sure that your e-mail address is correct because the download link of the signed file comes in your mailbox.
3. Check your e-mail for the confirmation and visit the link for verification. Another e-mail will be delivered to your mailbox, download and install the signed file. (you may need to reboot your phone for the patch to work) When you are done, change your profile to silent mode and begin snapping secretly!

How do I disable or mute the camera shuttle sound in my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic? Nokia and most of the mobile phone manufacture have specifically designed the camera application to make the shutter sound no matter what profile you have activated. This has something to do with most of the privacy laws around the world. The reason given was to keep people from snapping pictures of other people without them knowing.
It doesn’t make any sense to me, having said that if these perverts want to snap pictures of girls with their undies, they would have grabbed a compact digital camera instead of a mobile phone. Compact digital camera has a higher resolution, the image is sharper, and best of all it is doesn’t make any shuttle sound.

There are two side to a coin, imagine a person in an ongoing crime scene; he or she would not have had the chance to use his or her camera due to the ’shuttle sound’, right?
That is not all, how about people wanting to take a picture of a sleeping baby? They too would probably want the camera shuttle sound off, who wants a screaming kid just because he or she wants to get a nice quick shot for the relatives? How about a wedding in a church while the priest recites the vows? or in a fancy restaurant? To label everyone with the intention of taking silent pictures as pervert is wrong.
How do you go about disabling the shuttle sound?
No, silent mode does not solve this problem. From what I read, there are a few ways, you can hack your phone and remove certain wires, or simply replace the mp3 file in your phone that makes the shuttle sound. Now, how do I go about doing that? How do I access the hidden file? That is a mystery.
cCam is a camera capture application that runs on S60 3rd edition phones that allows us to capture pictures with no shutter sound and no flash light! The only trouble is the software is codes for Symbian OS s60 3th edition, as promised it disable the shuttle should for the following models – Nokia N73, Nokia N82, Nokia 6120 Classic, Nokia N81, Nokia E65, Nokia N95, Nokia N96, Nokia N97 and many more. Download cCam for Nokia phone powered by Symbian 60 3rd edition here. How about Nokia 5800? Anyone? Help?

June 28th, 2009Hey all, looks like in the phones configured in Europe it’s still possible to get rid of the shutter sound by turning the device’s mode on silence. But the bugging focus assisting flash still pops out. Let me also say that if this is really a privacy requirement the world is going nuts. I have a 9 month old baby, and taking pics of him when that harsh lite blindens him is not good. Plus because of the light he’s always with his eyes closed or making a strange face.
Anyhoo, playing around with my 5800 I jus found out that the assist lamp won’t come up for focus assisting if the camera scene is set to LANDSCAPE. Only the red led pops out briefly, but that doesn’t bother me. Only the the quality of a picture, especially if a closeup portrait will be worse. But, hey, better than nothing. And I also tried everything but cCam’s certificate expiry message still prevents installation.
Cheers.

October 21st, 2009thats strange about some of you not being able to put off the flash. i have a nokia 5800 & i can turn off the flash. when i go on camera on the right hand side just tap on the thunderbolt icon & you can either put the flash on,off or on automatic.
as for the shutter sound, i downloaded the program & it didnt work. i live in the middleeast so maybe the phone is different. also it said the program is not compatible with my version of the phone.
