How to Write a Good Email Newsletter
Email newsletters are one of the least expensive medium when it comes to marketing. Not only does it cost a friction of a physical mail, fliers and brochures, it is fast and has the potential to reach millions of readers. I’m not going to talk about the color, format, fonts, and layout and more, this basic information on how to write a good email newsletter can be easily found via a quick search on Google.
Instead of explaining what should be done, I believe it is better to elaborate what one should not do, and the common mistakes. I’m going to start with 2 simple common mistakes made by most marketing people.
Mistake number one – keep it simple. I bet you’ve heard this millions of times, but what defines simple? Based on my past experience, having a white background is perceived as simple, which is not true. When I say simple, it means the poster/flyer/brochure must be able to deliver the message within 3 simple steps.
If you’ve read Steve Job’s Icon book, you’ll understand his philosophy of keeping things within reach in 3 simple steps. To further illustrate this, try searching for a song in your seas of mp3 using iTunes. It takes nothing more than 3 steps, or any given task in a Mac software. Whereas less successful products tend to be a maze, for instant Google vs MSN Search.
Avoid bombarding your readers with unwanted information, most of all, avoid a messy layout. Keep it that way, potential customer sees the ads, click on the ads for more information, and proceed to buy the product. Period. No pop-ups, no special promotion or add this to be eligible for further discounts. Remember, 3 simple steps is the key.
What They Want, Not What You Want
The number one rule in sales and marketing is to sell somewhat the consumer wants, and not what the salesman felt like selling. If we were to take this simple concept and apply it to our email newsletter or marketing newsletter, this would literally translates as sending out those interesting ‘forward’ emails and a tiny advertisement attached to it on the bottom of the email.
Some people find the joy of forwarding these emails, if we were to send a ‘boring’ newsletter; it is very likely to end up in the spam folder. Attaching your ads or hijacking it together with those interesting ‘forward’ emails will instantly exposes your product to many more people as they forward it within their peers. Remember, think out of the box!

Send Blaster or used to be known as Mail Bomber was my favorite emailing software, it does what says. For those in need of a reliable bulk or mass emailing software, this is it. If you’re not too sure of its reliability, try the demo version, it is limited to 100 emails per day.
However, if you’re not into mass emailing, try glooq. glooq is a cool software that lets you add banners to every email you send. As shown in the image below, the ads appear on the left hand side of the content, therefore having a higher chance of being clicked.
