I am a Mozilla Firefox user, and I wish the guys from Firefox could come up with an online bookmarks sync feature. There are plugins that does the required task, but the whole idea of having a sync bookmark is the ability to access them wherever I am, regardless of the privileges I have on the computer, especially in places such as public libraries or cybercafes where I do not have administrative access to install plugins.

With all these new features coming out from Google Chrome, am thinking of moving back to Google Chrome again. Back then when it was in beta, it crashed too often and comes with too many bugs and I decided to move back to firefox. Google Chrome Bookmark Sync is not yet official, to enable bookmarks sync you should be running developer build of Google Chrome. To enable this feature, follow the step by step tutorial:

  • Right-click on the Google Chrome shortcut, on the shortcut tab you have a Target field with a path like this (if you use XP it will be different) “C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe”
  • Add “–enable-sync” to the end of the line with a space, like this
  • C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe –enable-sync
  • Apply the change and click “Ok” to exit.
  • Now restart the Google Chrome browser, go to tools menu you will see “Sync my bookmarks” link. Click on that it will prompt a Google Account signin box, signin and you are done.

Google Chrome uses Google Docs to store the bookmarks, the lists are stored in Google Servers using XMPP protocol so bookmarks are synced instantly. You can access your bookmark in Google Docs. Cool!
