How to download DirectX 10.1 from Vista Services Pack 1? For some unknown reason you’re not able to download and install Direct X 10 on your Windows Vista, or the file size is simply too large over your 56Kbps modem, you can always extract the files from Windows Vista Service Pack 1 via a registry hack. To extract the file, follow the instructions:

  • Save this text file as ‘File.cmd’
  • Run the batch file with elevated administrator privileges
  • Install and reboot the computer after installing each update: KB935509, KB937287 and KB93837
  • Reboot your comp, you will get the option to download Windows Vista SP1 in Windows Update
  • Verify that you have DirectX 10.1 by running dxdiag from the command prompt
