How to remove, disable, and block advertisement in Yahoo Messenger 8 and 9? I can accept the fact that both YM and MSN comes with ads, but there is a limit to it. It is really annoying when the ads is animated, to a certain extend some even pop-out when you accidentally mouse over the ad.
To get rid the ads in Yahoo Messenger, try this:
- Close Yahoo Messenger.
- Download the .
bat file(no virus, tested). - Double click on it.
In a nutshell, the .bat file edits the registry values of Yahoo Messenger, replacing it with values that stops YM from displaying ads. This method works on both Yahoo Messenger 8.0 or 9.0. Alternatively, you can try A-Patch for Yahoo! Messenger. Now you can remove the advertisements and open more than one Messenger at a time (polygamy) with this patch. Also, it doesn’t actually “patch” Yahoo, all it does is add some registry entries which disables the ads and enables multi-messenger for Yahoo Messenger! All with a simple click, it couldn’t be easier!

This is awesome. Except it doesn’t work (9.0.0.2162)
Add “0.0.0.0 us.ard.yahoo.com” and “0.0.0.0 uk.ard.yahoo.com” to the system’s HOSTS file and disable the system’s “DNS Client” service. This will block ads in Y!Msgr and Y!Mail without having to modify the Msgr installation, its Registry entries, or anything else.
(P.S.: Add the two lines to HOSTS without including the quotes.)
