Microsoft Security Essentials is now out of beta, available for those using genuine Windows only. Since this is version 1, be prepare for bugs. As for reliability point of view, Microsoft Security Essentials provides real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Apart from being ‘free’, the main attraction is the relatively low memory usage. Microsoft Security Essentials runs quietly and efficiently in the background so that you are free to use your Windows-based PC the way you want.
As seen in previous examples, Microsoft can be aggressive when they choose so, they defeated Netscape, Java, Mac, Palm and many more giant competitors. Just like their first browser with zero to 95% market share within a few years, I believe Microsoft Security Essentials will dominate the market, or possibly upset the existing antivirus maker.

As shown in the screenshot above, Microsoft Security Essentials is pretty much a basic antivirus for small business and home user. With the arrival of Windows 7, the antivirus software could possibly comes with more features such as a firewall, IM protection and all the bell and whistle. Give them sometime.
