I don’t consider myself an Adsense expert, but I do know the color scheme does make a difference. Jennifer Slegg, from Yahoo Publisher Network wrote an interesting article on having the right color scheme. According to here, the color scheme can be broken down into 4 categories:
- The blended technique
- The matching technique
- The complimentary technique
- The contrasting technique

At the time of writing, I prefer the contrasting or complimentary technique. Somehow the blending technique doesn’t seems right to me. Assuming that everything blends in, how would your advertisement stands out against the content? Put it that way, the purpose of advertisement is the ‘Look at me’ idea, and the only way to make your advertisement stands out is to make it different, not unique.
When it comes to contrasting, most bloggers are confused. They assumed that the Ads are in bright colours while the article’s link are in blue. Now, What if we reverse them? Say the link for the Ads are in Blue whereas the links for the content and article are in some other colour? It is not rocket science, just a “what if” theory.

Absolutely true. The best rule is to blend the ads into content with the Adsense link color.match with your content link color in order to maximize the PPC earning.
I’ve been experiencing with the many different colors for the last month and I’ve had the least luck with “blending” but I’m going to rotate all 4 methods for a couple weeks each, over 2 or 3 rotations and then take a good look at the results. Surprisingly, there’s not an overload of information on this subject.
I have been experimenting with AdSense for the last 18 months and am now receiving a cheque for between 200 and £280 each month. However, I’m sure that this can be improved. I’ve noticed quite a bit of improvement when I placed my ads above and to the left of the content, and at the very bottom of all the content. However, I’m still unsure of the best colour for the links. Take a look at the following page and give me your thoughts on the link colours of my ads. You will see that the left ads are slightly darker blue than the ads above the content
