Don’t get me wrong, detecting and removing them are both equally important. According to AV Comparative, Avira has the best detection rate and the highest false positive too. A good antivirus must has the least false positive, a high detection rate and a good malware removal ability.

So, which antivirus has the best malware removal and cleaning capabilities? A total of 50 malware are installed onto a system followed by a simple test of detecting and removing them. Below is the summary, for the complete report, read the ‘Removal-Tests’ report by AV Comparative.
This tests focuses only on the malware removal/cleaning capabilities, therefore all used samples were samples that the tested Anti-Virus products were able to detect. It has nothing to do with detection rates or protection capabilities. Of course, if an Anti-Virus is not able to detect the malware, it is also not able to remove it.
