Gookup is a simple coherent data backup utility for all major Google applications such as Gmail, Blogger and Google Reader. Simple it is but not user friendly, as shown in the screenshot below, it is a command based software that allows you to backup you data.
I find this tool very useful, do give it a try.

I am one of the development team member and would like to share a simple solution for Gmail backup / IMAP backup. It is possible with a handy tool “Beyond inbox”
You just have to configure/create your IMAP profile based on your gmail account and start having backup your desired mail.
