Why Do We Need To Sleep?

Why Do We Need To Sleep?

Sleep gives our body a rest after those long working hours, it also gives our brain a chance to sort things out. Well, that is what the scientist said, according to them sleeping helps the brain sorts and stores information, replaces chemicals, and solves problems. The amount of hours needed would be around 8 - 10 hours depending on our age.

Here are some really good reason why we should not skip our sleep!

  • Skipping one night’s sleep makes a person cranky and clumsy.
  • After five nights without sleep, a person will hallucinate
  • Six days sleep restricted to four hours pushed healthy young male volunteers into a pre-diabetic state.
  • Inadequate sleep works on hormone production in other areas as well. Without enough sleep, the central nervous system becomes more active, inhibiting the pancreas from producing adequate insulin, the hormone the body needs to digest glucose.

A groundbreaking University of Chicago study in 1999 showed that just six days of sleep restricted to four hours pushed 11 healthy young male volunteers into a pre-diabetic state. - The Ithaca Journal

    Visible Earth: Earth’s City Lights

    Visible Earth: Earth's City Lights

A beautiful high resolution photograph from NASA of the Earth’s city lights. Simply beautiful, reminds me of a quote, scientist can only dream of going to space but it is the astronaut that goes to space, how ironic.

Even more than 100 years after the invention of the electric light, some regions remain thinly populated and unlit. Antarctica is entirely dark. The interior jungles of Africa and South America are mostly dark, but lights are beginning to appear there. Deserts in Africa, Arabia, Australia, Mongolia, and the United States are poorly lit as well (except along the coast), along with the boreal forests of Canada and Russia, and the great mountains of the Himalaya.
