China could beat America to the moon race

With it growing economic and a weakening US dollar and economy, China is likely to beat the US in the moon race when President Bush told the entire nation that America would land again on the moon. Some of the key points are:

  • China has about 200,000 people working on its space program, about three times the number in the United States
  • China’s economic prowess is about twice that of America’s in the early 1960s
  • It would be nice if this healthy moon race would somehow benefits he entire human race, but we all knows that America is eye China’s space program with fear, fear that China’s space program might evolve into a space war program that will change the world’s super power in the future.

    Robot rights? Maybe by 2056

Imagine being sued by a robot for repair maintenance. I simply couldn’t imagine that but experts predict that this would likely happen in the year 2056. I believe robots would eventually replace us human in certain sector but not all, possibly in the packaging lineup or washing, something that does not require much common sense. Then the whole slavery thing repeats itself. Freedom, eventually!

    Flowing water' found on Mars

I guess they were right about water flowing on Mars, new images showed that there might be a possibility the human race will live on mars. The surface of Mars is too cold for liquid water to exist, but scientists believe underground water filtered to the surface carrying debris downslope long enough to form the gullies before it froze.

Michael Mayer, head of Nasa’s Washington-based Mars Exploration Programme, said: “These observations give the strongest evidence to date that water still flows occasionally on the surface of Mars.”

There you go, VOA News reports that Nasa plans to build a moon base. With the US and her on going war, I wonder how is Nasa going about funding the project knowing that the US is in big debt. If thing continue to worsen, a recession might hit and there goes the human civilization.

The United States says it plans to establish the first permanent human base on the moon by 2020 at the latest. The space agency NASA has revealed its plans for locating the outpost and for a landing craft that would carry astronauts from the base to explore other regions. VOA’s David McAlary reports from Washington.

No image of the moon base from Nasa but here are some of the past concept by artist around the world.

Free wireless Internet for 3 years!

    December 3, 2006 · Filed Under Sci and Tech · 1 Comment

Free wireless Internet for 3 years!Free Wifi for everyone? This is simply too good to be true. Singapore’s government is giving their citizen free net access, probably with some limitation but then since it is free, it should be something to cheer about. On the other hand, Singapore is one of the most dense country in the world and there bound to be so hundreds of unsecured network, all one have to do is click the connect button and surf and … wait for the police to come knocking on your door. I wonder, what happen to Google’s free wifi?

It took barely two months after Lee Hsien Loong’s announcement for the three Internet service providers to put up a spectacular show in the Little Red Dot.

Funded by the Singapore government, and operated by iCell Network, QMax Communications and SingTel, the Wireless@SG will offer free wireless Internet for the next three years.

The island-wide wireless Internet service is deployed at 600 hot spots from today. The number of hot spots is to increase to 5,000 by September next year. The service is free at 512kbps. Those who want faster access will have to pay about S$10 a month. - Jeffooi

    The Random Lift

    The Random Lift Button Project

The Random Lift - brain child of Chris Speed’s, a British artist who investigates the relation between space, time and architecture through conceptual approaches. What he did was to introduce a ‘R’ button and by press that magical button, people are taken to a random floor.

The Random Lift Button project was conceived as an opportunity to exemplify further the role of space at the mercy of time. Certainly in large commercial buildings lifts are implemented to squash space and enable people to move more quickly from one work activity to the next. Lifts become a temporal slippage in the experience of a building as a whole, we skip space and avoid people, places and the opportunity to see the ‘whole’.

I bet both YouTube co-founders Chad and Steve are laughing all their way to the bank. With the recent acquisition of their company by Google, they have solve most of their problem concerning copyright and especially bandwidth issue. If YouTube popularity continue to soar, I guess they’ll join the rank of billionaires within a year or two. Watch the video below.

The price makes YouTube Inc., a still-unprofitable startup, by far the most expensive purchase made by Google during its eight-year history. Last year, Google spent $130.5 million buying a total of 15 small companies.
