New Windows OS to include antipiracy features

Come on Microsoft, you can do better than that! With every new anti-piracy features these guys incorporate into Windows, all of them failed to do what it is suppose to do - reduce piracy. What Microsoft need is a auto lockdown feature, for example if the Windows found to be pirated after a series of validication with the server in Microsoft, Windows shall lock itself down and without a valid key there is no way to access all the files in the comp.

Microsoft will begin using a new set of technologies called the Software Protection Platform that deny users of pirated software access to features such as security protections and the new Vista design.

Toshiba and Fujitsu recall batteries

I guess things are getting out of hand lately for Sony, with the much delay in PlayStation 3 and the competition between Blue-ray and HD-DVD war, not to mention the recall of batteries made by Sony. With their reputation going down the drain, Sony has a lot of image brushing up to do. This must have gone down in history as the biggest battery recall in history, to the extend that some airlines are banning the use of laptop while on board the plane. If only a laptop explode on board, would Sony be liable of the damange not to the laptop alone but to the plane and the safety of the passagers?

Toshiba is recalling 840,000 batteries across a wide swath of their laptop lines, in addition to the 340,000 they recalled a couple of weeks ago for an unrelated power-loss issue. Fujitsu is recalling Sony-made batteries from 19 of its laptop models, but no word on exact quantity of laptops.

Intel quad-core with 70% performance boost

Intel quad-core with 70% performance boost

Call this soon to be release intel quad-core a AMD killer, with AMD announcing their release of a quad core chip early 2007, intel manage to hit the rot when it is hot. With a 70% boost interm of performance, this quad-core is a killer chip.

Unlike AMD “real” quad-core that has four processor in a chip, intel quad-core comes with two sets of dual-core processor. Meaning to say that instead of putting 4 processor in a chip, intel decided that two dual-core processor would be the ideal marketing strategy. AMD has been caught by surprise and they seems to be unhappy with the fact that intel is “cheating” in the processor race. It doesn’t really matter, as long as the end results is good.

However, Intel CEO Paul Otellini has a point when he says that consumers don’t care whether they’re getting four cores on a single die or four cores spread across two chips. What they care about is performance.

AMD has a lot of catching up to do, on the development of production, intel has a leading advantage in manufacturing processor, the year 2007 could be seen as a year where intel shift their production from 65nm to 45nm development, with the ability to produce 45nm chips, more chips can be squeeze out from a single waffer thus lowering the cost of each chip. AMD needs a 45nm production plant badly.

Intel Processor With 4 Chips

Call it a miracle, with the recent launch of intel Core Duo chip which has two processor in a chip, intel is launching a Quad-Core processor that comes with 4 chips. Just imagine the fire power the chip has, couple with 64bit and the latest DDR2 ram, you’ve got a very powerful computer. Playing games won’t be the same again.

The first chip to have four computing engines will be the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor that the company says will deliver up to 70% performance improvement over its current chips, which have one or two computing cores. If you’re wondering what is inline for the future, wonder no further, according to intel the 80 core processor, yes… there is 80 processor in a single chip and the prototype processor is capable of achieving a Teraflop of performance, or one trillion instructions per second. This is a PS3 killer. Who need Video console in the near future?

A Printer that Delivers 1,000 Pages a Minute

Talk about Superman - Clark Kent can eat his heart out now. Faster than a speeding bullet, this all new inkjet by two Jewish college researcher is about to change the way people look at inkjet printer. Compare it with the Apple’s ImageWriter II back in 1987, this new inkjet blows it way into deep space.

How they do it? Moshe Einat, one of the engineers involved said the invention works like a screen, in the sense that the print head of the inkject is the size of an A4 paper, unlike pervious inkjet where it fully scan line by line. Its a simpe innovative idea but not a new breakthru in printing, if a inkjet printer with a small print head cost about USD30 - USD 40, then an A4 size print head would almost be 100x the price. According to the engineers, it would be commercially available in two years.

Mobile companies develop new, faster 4G technology

September 8, 2006 · Filed Under Sci and Tech · Comment

Here is something new or shall I say old:

Global mobile operators and device makers are betting that the next level of transmission technology will ramp up mobile phone usage in a way that third-generation technology has so far failed to do.

What is installed for 4G?
- get through personal computers with high-speed broadband connections.
- allow two-way communication in voice, video and data on a scale that was previously impossible
- 4G is to deliver high-speed broadband for data- and visual- centric information. Everything before 4G is voice-centric

Come on, why in the world do I need 3G? let alone 4G? I’m not saying video call is not the future, its just that I don’t see a need for it. I believe network operators and mobile phone companies is still searching for the golden area where the introduction of sms brought a sudden growth in sales and revenue. Global mobile operators and device makers should come up with something attractive, something solid.

PlayStation 3 launch delayed for Europe and others

PlayStation 3 launch delayed for Europe and others

Sony blames the delay on production issues with blue laser diodes needed for the Blu-ray (and HD DVD) Disc drives. I guess its like a father blaming the mother for bring up a spoiled child. Now it makes sense now why that pink ps2 will be making an appearance in UK at christmas. Seriously, will a new PS2 pink win the heart of many? Sony, you’re as good as dead. Microsoft and Xbox will give you guys the kiss of death.

This is not a surprise after Sony’s track record and will no doubt give more weight and a stronger case to those who say Sony is treating the UK & Europe like second class customers.
