According to Kaspersky, Kaspersky Lab has designed a new antivirus product for Mac, the new product has a familiar Mac style interface making it easy to set-up and configure for both novices and more experienced users. Features:

  • Kaspersky Anti-Virus is developed based on an enhanced anti-virus kernel that has a high efficiency in malware detection
  • File scan runs automatically in real-time mode or by user’s demand

Previously, life was carefree for Mac users since viruses and worms have primarily attacked Windows users. But the safe times have gone and Mac users have become a target for Cybercriminals – as Apple’s installed base has grown and Macs increasingly intermingle with PCs. Kaspersky Lab’s brand new Anti-Virus for Mac strengthens the security provided by Apple and offers a platform to add additional security modules as new threats emerge.

Kaspersky® Anti-Virus for Mac will be available from 15th October 2009 and priced at £39.99 for a one-user license for one year. If you’re looking for the free beta version, download Kaspersky® Anti-Virus for Mac (Beta, Free) and use this Kaspersky Mac Antivirus license key file.

I would probably rate Kaspersky as the best antivirus for mac. It is after all one of the top antivirus for Windows.

Other Free Mac Antivirus

iAntiVirus (Free Edition)
ClamXav (Open Source, Freeware)
F-Secure Mac Protection (Beta, Still Free)
avast! Mac Edition (Shareware, 60 days Free Trial)

Download Free Norton AntiVirus 11 for Apple Mac OS X Trialware

For weeks I’ve been searching for Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus 11 trialware for macintosh, and I still couldn’t find it, probably Norton knew their product would be a big letdown thus it is best not to offer any trial. Based on comments found in MacWorld, Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac appears to be somewhat of a letdown, according to the comments, not only does Norton AntiVirus hog onto all the available memory, it causes frequent crashes and it took 3 hours to scan a 170GB hard disk, which is amazingly slow compare to a PC.

Anyway, according to Symantec, Norton AntiVirus 11 is the world’s most trusted antivirus solution for Macintosh systems. It removes viruses automatically, cleans infected Internet and email downloads, and defends against emerging threats. The latest version is compatible with Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger,” and comes with a widget that allows you to quickly check your system’s virus protection status. Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh 11 is only compatible with the new Intel-based Macintosh computers.

  • Automatically detects and removes viruses and worms
  • Prevents virus-infected email from spreading
  • Protects against attacks that target software vulnerabilities
  • Works with new Mac OS® X v10.5 (Leopard)
  • Includes an all-new Norton AntiVirus dashboard widget
  • Delivers industry-leading protection in the background, so you can work and play without noticeable impact on performance

Verdict: USD50 is really expensive for a piece of antivirus software; it is even more expensive when Mac doesn’t really need an antivirus to begin with. My advice? Try some of this free Anti Virus for Apple Mac! PC Tools iAntiVirus (freeware) and CalmX AntiVirus for Mac (freeware)
