How to Backup Your Blogger Blogspot Posts and Comments

You must be wondering, why should you backup your post and comments? Google is solid and reliable, no reason, right? Wrong. Here’s why:

I am blogging at i5bala.blogspot.com, quite happy with the Google Blogger platform and my Blog is having good page rank too. But now, things are turning bad towards me, just 4 days back my blog has been blocked by the Blogger’s spam-prevention robots, saying:

“This blog has been locked by Blogger’s spam-prevention robots. You will not be able to publish your posts, but you will be able to save them as drafts.” - Source

I blog about it last year, for those that are using blogspot as their main blogging tool, GeckoandFly highly recommend Blogger Backup by Codeplex, its free. The Blogger Backup utility is intended to be a simple utility to backup to local disk your Blogger posts.

Blogger Backup has the ability to backup all of your post and comments and fully restore it when you need to. As a blogger that uses both the Wordpress and Blogger platform, there is no other easier way to backup and fully restore posts and comments like Blogger Backup, its way much harder when it comes to Wordpress, someone should code it for Wordpress.

What are the Top Keywords in Searched by Blogspot Readers

What are the top 10 searched keywords by blogspot readers? For your information, we’ve embedded the Google Search function in some of our Blogger Templates, by doing this, it allows us the ability to harvest the various keywords keyed in by Blogspot readers through out the world. Before I move on to the next topic, Google AdSense on the other hand has announced in their blog that an update on December 10th will affect your top queries reports, top queries data older than a year old will no longer be available.

Therefore we (geckoandfly.com) have decided to download the 2 years worth of data (keywords) and release it to the public. Below are some of the most searched keywords in Blogspot for the past 2 years, the total search for the top 26 keywords are 31,334, making up 2.96% out of 100%.

Keywords (Total Search) %

None (14,264) 1.35%
viagra (1,468) 0.14%
nero (1,035) 0.10%
radiohead (824) 0.08%
milena velba (799) 0.08% [Czech nude glamor model]
phentermine (789) 0.08% [Weight loss drug]
sexo (781) 0.07%
PheNTermine (780) 0.07%
videos (775) 0.07%
musica (700) 0.07%
muse (694) 0.07% [Web Application]
filmes (690) 0.07%
bjork (677) 0.06% [Music artist]
interpol (671) 0.06% [International Criminal Police Organization]
tropa de elite (633) 0.06% [Movie]
photoshop (631) 0.06%
linkin park (622) 0.06%
Phentermine (587) 0.06%
playboy (584) 0.06%
chloe vevrier (578) 0.06% [German model and porn star]
video (567) 0.05%
guia (554) 0.05%
chris brown (551) 0.05% [American hip hop/R&B singer]
examenes (548) 0.05% [Exam in Spanish]
234523 (532) 0.05%

It appears to me that most readers simply hit the submit button without typing anything in the search form, funny right? What amazed me is the consistency in most of the keywords, they are somehow related to sex, on the bright side, some keywords are considered safe. The funniest thing is, 234523 appears to be a Canadian Patents Database code for Turbine? What has that got to do with blogs?

Two years of compilation, these 26 keywords made up of 2.96% of the total search, with the diversification in term of readers geographically and blog topics, this could possibly be the most accurate top 26 keywords anyone ever released to the public.

Blogger XML

Sorry for not posting anything for the past few days, been busy - studying and working at the same time is torturing. Anyway, I’ve just set up a political blog in blogger.com yesterday, I would say blogger.com has change tremendously, especially on the user interface for the template.

From my personal point of view, blogger.com is much more user friendly for those that don’t consider themselves as geeks. I would say it is no longer as flexible as it used to be.

Blogger Templates, any more new blogger templates to share? you’ll get a link back to your blog, and I believe you’ll get a boost in term of traffic and exposure.

Blogger in draft mode

Blogger in draft mode

For all those Blogspot Blogger, Blogger.com is proud to announce the newly special version of Blogger called draft! Basically the idea is to release half baked ideas that might or might not make it to the official platform, its a playground for trying out new Blogger features before they’re published!

Features on Blogger in draft may be updated, changed, re-imagined, transmogrified, or removed at any time. Draft gives us the freedom to see what works and what doesn’t before we turn a feature on for everyone, so expect us to make changes — hopefully you’ll think they’re for the better!
