Dell Axim Family RIP 2002 – 2007

It is official now that Dell is ending their production for Dell Axim PDA’s, leaving only Palm, HP and other smaller Taiwan companies producing PDAs for the world, even Sony back out from the PDA market with their high end Clie model few years ago citing lack of interest in consumer and the rise of PDA phones. I have a Dell Axim X51v and I believe it is one of the best PDA in the market in term of price over performance, they did a great job by offering great performance with graphic acceleration processor and a QVGA screen which enhance the reading ability of the tiny text fonts.
That is the bad news but for the good news, rumors has it that Dell is teaming up with a Quanta to produce a Dell PDA phones, which is a good move considering the fact that PDA phones would be in great demand in another 6 months time with the launch of Apple iPhone. Quanta is a Taiwanese company which produces products like notebooks and handhelds for other brands. Some of its customers include HP and O2.
Dell Love Linux
Dell Inc. will start offering the Linux operating system pre-installed on its PCs and notebooks in response to customer demand, the company said Wednesday. Linux is a free Operating System which is believed to be much more stable, this would be seen as a big blow to Microsoft’s latest operating system – Windows Vista.
Pre-install Linux is equivalent to how vendor and manufacture bundle their PCs and Laptops with FreeDOS, making their units way much more cheaper than those pre-installed Windows units. I have friends that actually buy these pre-installed Linux laptop (not a Dell) and once they get hold of their Laptop, they’ll be happily installing a pirated Windows. Microsoft is in a dilemma now, either they cut the price of each OS or face the consequences.
