Scribd - Download Free PDF and eBooks

Every now and then some guy will come up with a fantastic way of distributing copyrighted materials online, for instant Napster and Mp3, then YouTube with Videos and now here comes Scribd with eBooks. Basically Scribd gives the user the ability to upload any ebook, doc or readable materials to their server, slowly turning into a pirated server full of ebooks.

O’Reilly programming books, Blue Ocean Strategy, Penguin Books, Wiley and Sons, Photoshop Tutorial, you name it, they’ve got it. The best part is they have this preview windows where you are able to preview the book before downloading it for free. Scribd is definitely a unique and good idea, but the question is how long would it last? How long until they ran out of money paying their lawyers?

Anyway, we have p2p softwares like Bittorrent that has the ability to search ebooks online too.

Google Enabling Free Downloads Of Old Books

Google has a library of digital copies of books that was preserved for generations in public libraries shelve before it was scanned by Google as part of a mega project to make the world’s books searchable online. If you happen to be a fan of classic books, then try downloading it online at Google Book Search.

Try searching for William Shakespeare, and you get to download tons of his books. This makes me wonder, how would publisher like Penguin survive for the next 5 years? Seems to be Penguin Books is well known for their classic stories and that is what Google Book Search is providing now, and for free.

According to Google, their mission is to organize the world’s information and to make it universally accessible and useful. Google Book Search helps readers discover the world’s books while helping authors and publishers reach new audiences.
