With a market share of 1%, Google Talk is the way behind bigger IM company like Yahoo, MSN and AOL. With the recent interoperability between Yahoo and MSN, it’s ironic that others thinks that Yahoo and MSN as the future IM, while gtalk is the only one in the field built off of jabber, the only real open standard for distributed chat messaging. It interoperates with anything that’ll speak the same protocol. Which means its an open source IM, which is why Yahoo and MSN agree to allow both their IM client to talk to each other, knowing that Google Talk is a bigger threat.

Google Talk

Some of the latest features are:
- File Transfers
With this top requested new feature, you can send unlimited files and folders to your friends through Google Talk. There is no restriction on the file type or size and the peer-to-peer transfer is fast and reliable.

- Voicemail
If a friend isn’t around to answer your call, now you can leave a voicemail. You can even leave voicemail messages for your friends who don’t use Google Talk–they’ll receive an email with the message attached as an audio file.

- Music Status
Listening to music while on Google Talk? Now you can let your friends see what you’re listening to by selecting “Show current music track” in your status menu. Your status message will change when your song does!

Google Talk

Oh, They say talk is cheap. Google thinks it should be free. Google Talk enables you to call or send instant messages to your friends for free–anytime, anywhere in the world and if you’re a blackberry user, you’ll be thrill that Gtalk works with Blackberry. You can chat with friends while on the go.

We believe that you should have a choice in how you communicate with your friends, that you shouldn’t have to use one service because that’s where you keep your contacts and other information. We launched free auto-forwarding and POP access for Gmail so our users could take their messages with them and use any service they want, and we’re committed to upholding this idea of user choice for Google Talk as well. Today, with instant communications, you can’t talk to your contacts or buddies in one service while using another service. We hope to change that.

yahoo meebo chatting online

Crazy as it may sound but Yahoo is paying certain people USD150 to use Meebo for two weeks, what is Meebo? If you don’t know what a Meebo is, then nothing is wrong with you. Well, Meebo is an IM client. Like MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, Meebo is an online version of Gtalk, MSN, Yahoo and everything. Basically you’re allowed to sign into anyone of those account you have and chat online without installing those IM programs locally.

Good news for staffs working in a company that has certain computer rules on installing programs, bad news for your boss. The idea is there but I doubt that its will kick off, remember ICQ online version? It has gone the DoDo bird way – extinction and sorry to say that nobody is missing it.
