vulnerabilities comparison os operating system windows xp vista mac linux

Is Windows Vista and XP really secure than Linux and Mac OS X? According to Microsoft’s Security Technology Unit Jeffrey Jones, Vista and XP are indeed better than the other OS, or so it seems.

One of the reason for such a high number of vulnerabilities is the fact that other OS like Linux and Mac comes bundle with tons of softwares that do not exist in Vista or XP, for example operating system like Linux tend to bundle with word processing programs and image editing programs, to include these security holes together with the OS is very unfair, that would be like including Microsoft Office’s security holes together with Vista and XP.

Microsoft Plans $3 Suite for Emerging Markets

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates has finally decided it’s time to sell their Operating System for a small sum or $3, that is the good news and for the bad news, it is going to be made available only in third world, probably not in China and it is not Windows Vista but a trim down version of Windows XP, well I guess when you live in a third world computers are a luxury, getting a good graphic card just for Vista and the Aero rendering engine is not economically viable.

What is the reason behind this sudden change of plans? Experts believe that this could signal the threat pose by Linux, we’ve seen many big company offering linux as an alternative to Windows and on the server side Microsoft is slowly losing out to linux and fear that the same thing might happen in the desktop market. Microsoft’s aim is to have as many as 2 billions computer running Windows in the next few years with the introduction of the $3 Windows XP, good move indeed but can they beat those pirated Windows Vista selling for $1?

As part of the new plan, Microsoft will offer a US$3 software package called the Student Innovation Suite, which includes Windows XP Starter Edition, Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007, Microsoft Math 3.0, Learning Essentials 2.0 for Microsoft Office and Windows Live Mail desktop.
