The Minimo Project - PDA Web Browser

January 13, 2007 · Filed Under Software · 1 Comment

minimo_logo.pngThe Minimo has been focused on code-size and runtime footprint reduction, small screen usablity, and porting to small consumer devices. The Mozilla guys hope to make Minimo the browser of choice on small devices, or machines with limited system resources; taking advantage of Mozilla’s support for a broad and comprehensive set of standards and the variety of content on the web, proven security, international support, and cross platform capability.

I’ve tested it on my Dell Axim x51v and I have to say minimo is a big let down, it takes up too much memory, cause a slight lag when I run other applications. With the iPhone around the corner, future phone are bound to have a wide screen with wifi, this is where Mozilla comes in. Mozilla’s minimo has a lot of improvement to do if they are serious about wining over the crowd.

Google Maps for Treo

Google Maps for Treo

This is the latest release from Google, Google Maps is now available for Palm Treo, only for Palm and I don’t think it works with my Dell Axim loaded with Windows Mobile 5.0. I guess these guys at Googleplex sure is waging a serious war with Microsoft. Personally I think Google Maps is great, especially for travellers and if this whole Google Map thing take off like wild fire, Google will be filty rich, imagine the amount of advertisement Google can make just by including a small baloon that says “Hotel here - USD80 per night - select here for more information”.

I believe Google is the future and with so many bright graduates and phd holders, Google will be the next Microsoft, perhaps even bigger.

Google says this one “is the fastest, slickest version yet, with draggable maps and translucent pop-up balloons that don’t hide the map.”
