Samsung’s identity crisis
Money CNN has this article on Samsung, it reads:
One day in the not-so-far-off past, Kun-Hee Lee, chairman of Samsung Electronics, sent each of his closest friends and key employees one of the company’s newest wireless phones as a New Year’s present.
It was a nice thought, but it backfired. The things just didn’t work properly, and polite complaints started pouring in. Mortified, Lee rushed to the company’s factory in the South Korean city of Gumi, where most of Samsung’s handsets are made.He gathered the employees in the courtyard, made a giant heap of the factory’s entire inventory of wireless phones — more than $15 million worth — and ordered it smashed to pieces and set on fire.
How I wish companies in China would emulate Samsung and their smaller brother Acer at building reliable products rather than cheap knock-off.

Is that a real Samsung LCD monitor?

It used to be Sony monitor that the entire world is eying but I guess time changes, Samsung is now known as the king of monitors and with their almost unlimited budget in R&D, Sony has a long way to catch up, in fact from what I’ve read, Sony is collaborating with Samsung for certain models.
One of the many problem with being big is that cost would eventually come into question, for example Samsung needs to ensure the quality it promise and the need to advertise, and unlike some other unknown LCD manufacture in Taiwan and China, these manufacture produce LCD panels at a way much cheaper rate than Samsung. This is where Samsung comes in, buying up LCD panels from them and slap their name on it… I guess that explain why my Samsung monitor died after less than a year.

Samsung’s $200,000 Machine Gun Sentry Robot
If I’m not mistaken, Samsung build ships and cars in Korea. Correct me if I’m wrong. This is samsung’s latest baby, a Machine Gun fits with a optical sensor, it has a sophisticated pattern recognition to detect the difference between humans/trees, and a 5.5mm machine-gun. Watch the video.

Samsung Unveils 10-Megapixel Camera Phone

No one thought a 10 megapixel would hit the market anytime soon, let alone a 3 mega pixel camera. The prototype phone was first shown at the Cebit fair in Germany - the world’s biggest technology fair. The SCH-B600 is styled to look like a camera instead of a phone and comes with a 3x optical zoom, auto focus and manual focus and also flash.
It will cost 900,000 won (US$950) in South Korea, and Samsung said it won’t be selling it in other markets. Weird but why are they not keen in other markets besides South Korea?
Personally I think a 3 mega pixel camera phone is good enough and with today’s camera phone, people tend to forget that its a phone and not a camera. You need a camera to capture that lasting memory and not with a camera phone, the reason being is that camera phone is just a phone with a camera feature, for a vivid sharp colour pictures, a real 5 to 6 mega pixel digital camera beats this Samsung 10 megapixel camera phone flat.
The B600 offers the same level of picture-taking sophistication that a 10-megapixel digital camera offers including functions such as 3x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. Also fitted with a LED autofocus feature which assists users to capture clear, crisp photos even in dark settings, the B600’s LED autofocus automatically determines the distance and utilizes the appropriate focus setting for optimal photo shooting. The B600 also supports white balance, manual focus, continuous picture-taking, and interval picture-taking functions.
