I Hate Spam!

As a blogger, I hate comment spam, they just kept on coming in and consume your bandwidth like nobody’s business. The other type of spam I hate the most is email spam, seriously I don’t need those pills that make my dick another inch longer and sorry mr.spammer I don’t need all those blue films and again I repeat myself, I don’t need all those things. The worst spam message I’ve ever come accross is spam mail that ask you to purchase a spam guard software, its like asking a robber to guard you house.

Akismet Comment Spam Filter

Its been almost two week I am using Akismet to filter those comment spam. I am glad to say that it is 99.5% accurate, not 100% as what we all wanted it to be. Certain comments was caught as spam when it is not, but the overall performance of Akismet is beyond what I’ve imagined. Now I am addicted, Wordpress user that is not using Akismet should get the plugin now at Akismet official website.
People have already begun implementing Akismet for other systems and platforms, I’ve heard that there are plugins for Moveable Type and others, and they’re working now on mailing spam.

The Best Anti-Comment Spam Filter
With a few blogs to maintain, finally I’ve given up on deleting comment spam manually. I’ve been receiving approximately 100 comment spam per day for the past few months. I’’ve just installed the Akismet plugins for the first time. I’ll give a report after a day or two on Akismet performance and how good is it an catching spams.

Unlike Blogger.com, Wordpress don’t have the Captcha feature installed by default. I hope that future Wordpress would have this feature come by default, chances are it won’t happen. One of the main reason being is that Wordpress is an Automattic production and so is Akismet. If Word verification is installed by default, Akismet won’t be making any money at all from Wordpress.
According to Wikipedia, Spam is a canned meat product made by the Hormel Foods Corporation in (among other places) Austin, Minnesota, USA (aka Spam Town USA). Well, Spam is a food, but how in the world did the word Spam got associated with electronic flooding? Wikipedia has an interesting article on the origin of the name for electronic spam.
As spammers continue to advance their tools and try to attack your business blog from new angles, your diligence will be required. Comment spam is a fact of life if you have a blog.
No plugins is 100% accurate in filtering spams, except for one. Yes, you heard me saying it loud and clear. There is one way of achieving 100% accuracy. No plugins required, simply disable comment feature. Problem solve. :)

Blogspot Word Verification For All
One of the method used to counter spam is word verification. Word verification (sometimes called a CAPTCHA™) is designed to be a simple puzzle that a human can solve easily but a computer cannot. Sadly, that has not been the case for Blogger. A ton of humans cannot solve our word verification simply because they cannot see it (blind people).

Blogspot and Google has been testing the audio verification feature for a month and now it is officially launch. If you cannot see a word verification image, or if you just want to change things up a bit, click the accessibility icon next to the text field to hear a series of digits. Just type what you hear (in Javascript browsers we set the form field focus automatically) and you’ll be good to go.
I’ve notice that Google has the most user friendly layout among other bigger internet company, for example when I surf net using my PDA, google automaticlly detect it and display a PDA version of Google search page at 640×320 resolution for my tiny PDA screen. Thumbs up for the people at Googleplex. If only every internet giant would be as user friendly as Google, then surfing the net from a mobile phone would be the alternative means in no time.
