What is an IP-PBX business phone system?

An IP-PBX business phone system is just like a traditional PBX, the only main difference is IP-PBX uses the latest IP routing technology. Signaling takes place from the IP phone to the PBX server over your LAN.

Traditional connections can be regular copper lines or a T1 with a PRI circuit, however, the IP-PBX is provided by a telecom equipment company who connects the system to providers using gateway cards.

If you’re looking for an open source ‘free’ pbx software, Asterisk is the answer. Like any open source software, technical support is not free.
