OLPC to run Windows

Negroponte suggests the OLPC can support Windows, which is something not to many people’s liking, Bill Gates has a monopoly on the desktop market and won’t it be better if OLPC comes bundle with Linux or possibly a strip down version of MacOS X but that would be highly unlikely considering the fact that Apple is in a league of their own.
Another drawback would be the $176, up from the initial $100 price tag announced one year ago. OLPC’s target is one child a laptop, which is something I find almost impossible to achieve, considering the fact that the new price is $176, it doesn’t make economical sense to give or sell a unit to one child when three units of OLPC would be sufficient to buy a low end desktop and if the desktop is placed in a library, more than 3 children can have access to the computer. My bet is OLPC is as good as dead!
