How do you Remove ads from Geocities?
Ever since Google made their Google Pages to the public, it really makes me wonder why in the world would anyone want to use Geocities anymore. Perhaps its about time Yahoo do away with the sidebar ads and let the user decide if they want to have ads display on their website or not in exchange for a small profit, just like what Google is doing with Blogspot, its a win win situation.
Anyway, if you happen to have this old Geocities site hanging around and don’t want to lose the URL because of the amount of traffic, try removing the ads from Geocities with this tutorial. It really works, why would you want to do that? Simple, that is because Google Adsense don’t allow any other contextual advertising other than adsense on a site, so technically speaking the YPN ads on the sidebar of every Geocities is against adsense policy.
YPN Ads Placement Advice
Yahoo YPN posted their finding on how blog readers eye movement when it comes to reading the content, some what opposite from what Google Adsense team’s finding.

They suggest using vertical skyscrapers to the right of content follow by a rectangular box content advertisement. Unlike Google Adsense, the main placement for ads would be point 3, instead of the header section.

I guess the biggest difference is if you are a first-time visitor to a site or a regular reader. First-time visitors have to scan everything for navigation, I would say that if you have lots of first time visitor, the above ads placement would work very well.
