Must be the first iPhone to be broken by a user. I thought the screen is suppose to withstand certain pressure and impact incase it drops, well I just simply couldn’t understand why would Jobs want a glass screen instead of a plastic, at least plastic is lighter and much more durable. Read more about it. Flickr.

July 5th, 2007Yeah, I wonder why they didn’t use a durable one like plastic.

July 10th, 2007I bet you they wouldn’t have done that if it started happening to more people and if it weren’t like the first week of release. Could you imagine how much negative PR it would have given them if they hadn’t replaced it, particularly so early in its release?

November 28th, 2007ME too! On a flight back from CA my Iphone ended up with a cracked glass screen during flight. Apple wants $250 for a new one. What happens next month and next month and next month and so on when I fly. I went to Apple store and talked to 2 people at Apple and same story. $250.00 for a new piece of glass. That is crazy! Almost the price of the whole phone. I have had many phone in the past and have dropped tossed frisbeed and never a problem like this. WOW! Maybe the Mr. Jobs should rethink the glass situation.

April 17th, 2008Maan i just want to shoot myself. Was putting the iphone in my upper pocket and it fell right on the concrete, face first. the glass is shattered pretty badly. the phone still works and I can still select all the icons. 250 plus tax is way way way too much. i would have considered 150, but apple is just ripping us off here.
i love the phone though. i mean if you take good care of it and put a case on it, and cover the screen, you’re good. i had a casing for it, but it was just for the back of the phone. made it less slippery. i should have protected the glass more.

I ended up getting a replacement face off ebay and replaced it myself. Delicate surgery, but it worked out well. I wrote up my experience here:

August 27th, 2008The Iphone is a piece of crap!
i wouldn’t even think about getting one for myself, my school teacher has one dropped it onto lino from 30cm off the ground and put a huge crack through the middle of it!
and the just today she dropped it again and the whole thing shattered! apple better make a new iphone that can actually withstand a fall. if i dropped my phone from that height it wouldn’t even get a scratch on it!
I’ve gone looking around chat rooms for the Iphone and they all have at least 3 people complaining about a cracked iphone screen.
Apple, JUST FIX IT!!!!

October 8th, 2008I dropped my iPhone 16Gb 3G on a hard linoleum floor and the screen cracked. The phone is completely dark and the iphone is not working at all. I went to the Apple Store in Garden City NY and was told origionally that I would have to buy another iphone for $199.00. After waiting over 1 1/2 hours Johnathan (one of the geeky Steve Jobs drones) told me that I had to pay $399.00 for the 8Gb 3G model (which is supposed to be $199.00) or $499.00 for the 16Gb model that I paid $299.00 for. What the hell. I said that I would get less iphone for more money and Johnathan acted like a mind bomb just went off inside his skull and reluctantly stated that “my logic was correct, if I wanted to argue that point” I explained that he shouldn’t argue with customers. And I did remind him that I was a good customer. He didn’t seem to care. He blamed AT&T. So I went to the AT&T store where they blamed Apple. The cleck at the AT&T store was puzzled as to why Johnathan at the Apple store didn’t offer me the same discount that was offered to other customers who suffered the same misfortune when their iPhones broke. Yup I was told by the clerk at the AT&T store that when others came in with the same or worse problem (broken screen) those customers were given at least a discount to $299.00 on the 8Gb model. This whole Apple scam makes me sick and I am probably ready to ditch the iPhone. Thanks a lot for no customer service Mr. Steve Jobs. Attaboy! Way to go champ! Nice way to teat your good customers.

October 9th, 2008UPDATE to the ABOVE entry from REV. to day I went to the AT&T store again and someone else told me that I should go to a different Apple Store in Huntington NY on Long Island, because they are more responsible and informed about their products and services. So I went to that Apple Store in the Walt Whitman Mall. I was immediately Helped by a very pleasant and Professional well trained and helpful Caryn. She was excellent and took care of everything quickly with no insults snyde remarks or arguments. Caryn obviously has studied her Apple material and knew exactly what to do.I was able to purchase another 16Gb iPhone 3G for the same price that I paid for the one that broke, $299.00 Caryn was very apologetic for the way I was treated in the Rossevelt Field Mall Apple Store in Garden City. Well I was back in business with my new 16Gb 3G iphone (and a new rubber protective shell) in short time. I couldn’t help but notice that the Walt Witman Mall Apple Store was more calm and orderly. The staff even seemed friendlier and more willing to assist. They seemed to care a bit more. While Johnathan over at the Roosevelt Field Mall Apple Store seemed to be gleeful when he was telling me the unfortunate and hopeless incorrect information as he sent me away. Cayn should get a big promotion and a great big thank you from Steve Jobs. It is employees like Caryn that will keep Steve Jobs Apple in business. Take notice Johnathan, customer service is alive and well. You just have to be willing to do it. Thank You Caryn.

November 13th, 2008check this out u guys..I dropped my white iPhone 16gb outside comming from a party the phone still works but I was devastated it’s just cracked on the left side but it’s ugly so I googled repair for it on pdasmart.com for only 124 including overnight shipping only 124 and I got the screen the next day it was like a brand new phone sigh relief..

November 17th, 2008If you wanted to buy a new phone, the price is $499. If you wanted to trade in the broken phone and get a new one in return, it’s $299. Seems like a simple miscommunication of sales vs. service. I doubt the geeky kid in the apple store was trying to rip you off, it’s not like he sees one red cent of his sales, they’re not on commission.

June 1st, 2009I recently dropped my iPhone and cracked the screen. I was very upset to find out my Apple care would not cover this. I was about to pay Apple $199 for the repair until I found http://www.iphone3gscreenrepair.com. They repaired my cracked iPhone 3G glass + digitizer for only $75. The best part is that they fixed it the same day they got it! I had my phone back 48 hours after I sent it in!

June 11th, 2009Good news! I couldn’t afford to pay Apple to repair my cracked iPhone 3G and then I found http://www.crackedphonescreen.com Surprisingly, they offered me the same service for only $89 and a 60 day guarantee! I’m so delighted with the repair they performed and the price I paid .
