- Log into Facebook.
- In the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, click the Chat button.
- When the chat window appears, click the Options tab.
- Select Go Offline

Good news, just like Google Talk, Facebook Chat application can be loaded to the sidebar of Firefox. To run the Facebook chat messenger from Firefox sidebar follow these step by step tutorial:
- Open the Bookmarks Organizer
- Go to ‘Organize’ and then ‘New Bookmark’ and insert the following address:
- http://www.facebook.com/presence/popout.php
- Make sure you check the ‘load this bookmark in sidebar’
- When you’re done, click on the ‘bookmark’ in your ‘bookmark’.
- Facebook Chat application will appear on your sidebar instead on a new tab.
